Do it with Morph tool...

Draw shape with FILL TOOL then use magic tool to trace shape with MORPH,

Extrude Morph to needed size, open dialog box, go to Tags and categories
and assign properties that you need. (structural function, position, Element classification etc)

So you will have Morph object which will act like column....It will be represented in elevations, plans, 3D just fine !

hope this helps

Umm... yeah pretty much. There is another way as far as I know... a very dumb way, I tried it before.

Put some invisible elements that intersect the column so that after performing solid element operations you get the shape you want. But as I said, this isn't a particularly efficient way to do this.

Can't you make it with complex profile?
