Trace reference is really slow!!!

Every time I turn on trace, I have problems.

Whenever I do anything, even if I click on a line or element, it starts to think for at least 30 seconds.

Does this happen to everyone? Trace is a awesome and very powerful option but not like this, it is completely USELESS!

Please anyone offer me some advice.

(I am using a PowerPC G5 with 1 gig/ram, dual 1.8 Ghz)

I'm using dual 1.8 and dual 2.0 with 1.5 GB of RAM and they do not seem so slow. It can take a few seconds if you have a section/elevation because it has to rebuiild when you first show it.

What sort of video card do you have ?

Apparently there is an issue with AC11 and nvidia 7 and 8 series cards.

My nvidia 6600GT and trace works fine but on my other pc with the 7900GT as soon as trace gets turned on it slows down dramatically.

Talking to retailer here, graphisoft are ment to be releasing a patch soon.

It's working fine for me when tracing other model views or DWGs on worksheets. But when the trace ref is a PDF or image file, everything slows down quite a bit. This is most likely due to the size of the PDF or image file I guess.

My video card is a nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. Others in my office are having the same issue. Every time I try to pan around the screen or zoom it has to redraw everything.

Under the "options" menu, I went to "Project preferences" then "Miscellaneous." There is an option there called "Update autorebuild model viewpoints continuously." I turned it off and it still is no better, it is still updating.

Is this a problem with my videocard?

I've never used a pdf as a trace reference before.

Are you trying to trace reference a "view map" item? If you are referencing a view with a different layer combination than the current window, it will do that.

The way to get around that is reference from the "project map", which will not change the layer combination. Of course, that means you won't see some things (such as roof on the exterior elevation if you are on the plan layer combination).

It may need a bit of a different layer organization to do exactly what you want, but in general I believe it's fine for referencing 2D xrefs, 2D drafting views, etc. It's also great for referencing the layout view. This eliminates the need for a grid object for me.

DENNIS!!!!

Thank you, that works!

I was using the view sets as trace and when I went to the project map it now runs flawlessly.
