Trouble with Barrel Vaulted Roof

Hello all,

I'm having difficulty creating a barrel vaulted roof. the span of the roof is about 20 feet with the height of the vault being 1' -6" above the spring line. When I create the roof it appears flat. No vault appears in section or 3d. Thanks in advance for your help.

How did you create the barrel vault ?
Did you use the roof tool, the shell object, Profiler, TrussMaker,
complex profiles, or some other method ?
This is necessary to know in order for us to help you.
Also, it would be helpful to know your platform and Archicad version.

You've probably got your magic wand resolution too low.

But forget the roof tool entirely for fancy roofs.

Ever since they brought out the custom profile for the wall tool, that is the, as Borat would say, poosiecats eh-noose, for arcs and fine details included.

Draw anything, illogical or not and the wall tool will draw it. The barrel vault roof tool is picky as to the logic it will tolerate.

So Sorry,

I used the roof tool to create the roof. I'm using ArchiCad 9. Thanks for the tip regarding the magic wand settings - I will adjust the settings and try again.

And another reason to always post your specs in your signature if you aren't completely current with your application.

Chris,
If you used the roof tool then your barrel vault will have lots of
horizontal joints. If you don't want all those joints then there
are several methods (including the one Dwight suggested) for making a barrel vault that appears smooth.
Since you are in AC 9 the only one not available to you is the complex
profile option but all the rest are.

Do a search on the forum using the keyword "barrel vault" and
you will find descriptions of alternate ways to model a barrel vault.
