1. I am sure I converted a mesh in a elevation to a 2D drawing before... am I nuts or can it be done? Sort of like converting to outlines?
2. I get a .dwg from my surveyor of the site contours (and boundaries). Can I convert this to a mesh? At the moment I retrace this .dwg with the mesh tool and draw & elevate each contour line individually. This is not the worst thing in the world but it would be nice to select the contour line and make ridge points out of that instead of retracing.

I Ask the surveyor for a DXF of the Site and use ArchiTerra (AT) to import the data and create the Mesh. Likewise the surveyor could produce an ASCI file containing his points. The asc can be opened in Excel and saved as a txt file. This txt file could then be used to produce the Mesh within ArchiTerra (AT). AT also has a tool that creates a the contours of your new mesh as a Library part.
Aside from using AT. It is the tracing of the lines that you need to do.
