Your solution is the one I would use if you want a perfect rectangle for the landing. I am pretty sure Stairmaker won't allow this. In the concrete stairs I do I use this room for the railings as they do the 180 deg. turn to still maintain minimum landing width.

You can choose whether the last tread is on the top floor level or one riser below it.

You can choose whether the last tread is on the top floor level or one riser below it.
