Using ArchiCAD as a Design Tool or just a Production Tool?

Not applicable
I was wondering if people generally use ArchiCAD as a design tool in addition to a production tool? I am a former user of AutoCAD and I would often design as I was drafting in AutoCAD i.e. making multiple copies of plans and drafting various options of a design. I'm wondering if people work in a similar way when laying things out in ArchiCAD? Since it's a 3D model with so much information do people generally wait to until their floor plans are mostly worked out before beginning their projects in ArchiCAD? Or do you make multiple copies of files and work out different floor plan options that way? I know the two phases will always have overlap but just curious what some working methods are...thank you!

PS: I usually try to work out as much as possible by hand first too but there are times when you need to see things drafted and then work from there...
