Working with Roofs

Hello,

Trying to improve how to modify roofs.. I decided to raise the smaller center section of this house.. First I raised the roof along with fascias, frieze.. etc.. Of course the main roof it used to be attached to had not been informed so some node movement in order..

I did it before by using this view to move each node to meet the main roof. This took a while for all the parts involved. I tried in vain to stretch everything at once horizontally. Biggest problem here is as I have no idea when the cursor meets the main roof (like Sketchup) so A LOT of fiddling but still not 100% accurate. THEN I went to the plan view to move the nodes of the main roof up along it's plane as it was too difficult in this view (for a beginner like me)..

I am sure there is a cleaner, quicker, more accurate way to do this... Ctrl-Clicking (impossible in 2d as the edges are on top of each other) in the 3d Window doesn't seem to work... Stretching the inner nodes of the roof the known horizontal distance seems fastest to me if I can do it..

Could have said all this in fewer words I am sure...

Thank You..

just pull back the valley edge on the main roof so you can see it, THEN control click. You can do this in 3d or on plan

Ben,

That did it. I'm learning.. some aspects of AC nearly impossible to learn without AC-Talk.. I assume I "fiddle" the eave parts to meet the main roof? Sure would be nice if I knew when they made contact with the roof plane.

Thanks..

select one roof plane then control click the other roof plane edge you want to meet, then select the other roof plane the control click that edge, play around with it, experiment, you will find it very easy once you get the hang of it.

I tend to use these alignment "lines", not sure about their actual name, to assist in lining up objects in 3d. [be sure to check the 2nd box] By selecting the object you wish to move by the selection dot point you wish to align it with you can snap, in essence, to that point, be it horizontal, vertical whatever. This does not eliminate the need to check yourself in 2d or elevation, even from the 3d window.

Play with this a little as well and it can speed things up some.............
