objects snap to mesh height?

how do i make all the trees on a hill side so the base is even with the mesh elevation on a slope?

Select the mesh icon in the gravity setting in the coordinate box before
placing the tree.

and what if the trees are already placed?

You can use the syringe to pick up the properties of the original tree, turn gravity on, place a new tree, then delete original one. You can't set gravity on an existing object.

Or in 3D just guesstimate the elevation required till the base of the tree is near the surface of the mesh. With tress close enough is usually good enough.
