perforated steel plate

how can create a perforated stell plate( with round perforations for example)? or even better, where I can find a object like this ?

Such an object would require too many polygons to be practical since each tiny hole would be defined by at least eight polygons...... you'll use a fill pattern to define the surface in anything but a photo rendering, and in a photo rendering you'll use a texture map with a mask for transparent holes.

Attached is an example of a screen pattern I use.

Depending on exactly what yu need, you can draw the pattern in photoshop or use a photo from a metal catalog.

so it is an exercise in my book - use the pefed metal file to create this material - watch the sizing - note that for ArchiCAD 9, it uses the mask channel that ArchiCAD 8 does if you tell it to match.

an example in use - LightWorks rendering - note flaw in LightWorks - can only render the front faces of the block - that perfed metal is wrapped all around the slab, but the rendering engine treats it like a folded sheet - look thru the holes to see what I mean.


BTW: see how the metal color is controlled through reflectivity rather than color - the texturemap is white. This way, other colrs can affect the surface more easily making the image more lively.
