placing drawing on Layout

Excuse me for asking a redundant question that I know has been asked before (but I cannot find the answer): how does one place a captured view from one Archicad file into a layout of a different file--like saving Plotmaker files from several drawings and putting them together on one layout?

I MUST be totally overlooking the answer in the help and printed manual, and/or searching ArchiTalk by the wrong terms.

Thanks,

rip

Place Drawing>

choose 'An External Source', navigate to the archicad file that contains the view and pick it from the list . . .

I can't find the "Place Drawings" menu item. As I said, I must be looking right at it and not seeing....

There's not a command to click. You open the layout you want to place the Drawing on, then drag the Drawing from your Navigator into the Layout.

There is no Place Drawings Menu.

Procedure:

File
External Content
Place External Drawing
- locate drawing to be placed on sheet in explorer/finder
- ArchCAD will show a navigator with all the defined viewsets(if any) of the chosen file
Select Drawing
Place drawing on sheet.
Rinse and repeat.

Thanks Mark! Just tried that and as soon as it stops rinsing, I will have it!

Just beware not to use hot water on shrinkable items!!!

BTW:

It must be very early morning in S.A., no?

Pah! What is time to an architect?

(actually not sure what time I posted, but think it was mid morning)

or you could right-click on any blank area in the layout. for external content i find that a much faster and easier way of getting to the file/view that i need. the reason i didn't give you the full menu path to the 'Place External Drawing...' command is because i've customised my WE so much that i've forgotten where the default command resides. i've made a 'Layout' menu for all layouting commands . . .

cheers

Ok, that IS customised!

are you sure you're still working in ArchiCAD?

but yes, I find going back to ArchiCAD standard setup is difficult without all my shortcuts -I've not yet ventured into the rearranging of menus yet(there be dragons!)
