placing object on top of mesh with gravity?

Is there an easy way to drop an object on to the surface of a mesh that is floating above it? gravity?

Gravity will snap to the surface of the mesh. As far as I know, you would have to snap to the surface then use Elevate to lift the object after it's placed.
