"Save Template" option in Registers

Anonymous
Not applicable
I have discovered something interesting in registers.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Graphisoft\ArchiCAD\ArchiCAD 9.0.0 INT R1\Navigator

Save Template = 0 (Default Value)

If I set "Save Template = 1" and Run AC9 then new "Save Template" option in navigator appears(see attached image).

clicking on this function brings dialog that says, that "PNTemplate.bin"is saved.

Saving in Navigator stored info as template file to import in other projects was/is my wish.
Now I'm interested to know is there any way to use this "PNTemplate.bin" file?
Anyone has experienced this extra option?

Do a forum search for more info. Link reported the use of these settings some time ago. 😉

and now I have some answers!
Thank's Karl for advise to search in forum!

So how PNTemplate.bin works with AC9:
1. In Registers: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Graphisoft\ArchiCAD\ArchiCAD 9.0.0 INT R1\Navigator
set value for "Save Template" to 1 (value=1)
2. An extra fly-out 'Save Template File' in View Editor comes out at next StartUp of ArchiCAD.
3. Open any .pln (maybe also .pla .mod, .2dl, .tpl etc) file wich "View Sets" you want to store as template.
4. Use 'Save Template File' option in Navigator.
5. Now if you create new file using "New & Reset" option you will find all stored "View Sets"(only folder and subfolders, not saved views).

I advise to create PNTemplate.bin files from your Template files.

The same can be done for PM9.

It's also possible to change extension of PNTemplate.bin file to *.pln .
This will create new file, as it was created via "New & Reset" from File Menu.

User Link asks me via PM:
Are you absolutely sure you can rename a bin? As far as I remember they are only a few kb's and therefore I thought they couldn;t be renamed.
Yes,
it is possible to rename PNTemplate.bin file to PNTemplate.pln

File Size of PNTemplate.bin by me currently is 47 kb

After renaming, opening in AC9 and saving blank file, file size was increased up to 948 kb.

It just works well!

not on a mac it isn't....... see attached screenshot.

(for mac users wanting to create the template file in the first place, you need to find the same "Save Template" value under the "Navigator" group in the archiCAD 9 plist file:

~/Library/Preferences/com.graphisoft.AC 9.0.0 INT v1.plist

it can be opened with Apple's 'Property List Editor' (installed as a part of the developer tools), or any XML text editor if you know what you're doing . . . )

they're XML based preference files that store an application's settings - both visible to the user from the settings/preferences dialogue and 'invisible' internal settings. i would imagine they're akin to your registry files. i doubt you'll find them on a PC . . .

Ben I have found no .plist file in my PC. ALso have searched in registers. There are several application's ".plist"s, but they have nothing common with Graphisoft, they are Microsoft's registers.
Can you attach some screen shots from your Mac relative to our talking subject. Maybe this can help me to understand ".plist"s better!
