roof modeling

I'm just now starting my first real project with AC and naturally, I've got some questions....

I have a roof (attached - outlined in red) where the ridge of the lower roof is visible as a red line on the uppper roof where it runs under the upper roof overhang. I tried moving nodes in plan, but that got me an error message - invalid polygon, self intersection or hole intersects boundary.

I also tried to combine the two roof using SEO which eliminated the extra line, but also eliminated the tile hatch on the roof surface in elevation.

Any thoughts? Also is the best way to create proper intersections with intersection lines by using SEO in areas as outlined blue?

thanks!!

I would add a node to ridge line of roof B at red cross, and stretch edge down to where it intersects underside of roof A (green line).

Do the same at the chimney.

hmmm that's what I thought I tried to do , but it gives me that error message every time.

Maybe I'm doing some thing wrong in 3d that I'm not seeing in the floor plan when I move the nodes....

Is the cut out of Roof A a result of SEO with B?

You just need to ctrl/cmd click the lower roof to the upper roof, then SEO the lower roof from the upper roof. ArchiCAD doesn't allow you to ctrl/cmd click edges individually and certainly not to the underside of a roof.

For the chimney just use the pet palette to stretch the boundary into place, making sure your roof edge angle is always vertical. You can do this eiter in plan or 3D.

Cheers,
Link.

I think they tried SEO, Link, and that was causing a problem with fills, which was why I suggested stretching the overlapping edge down. It wouldn't even have to be 100% accurate ( did I say that?), just enough to get it to the underside of the upper roof.

Yup, that's what happened - the fill disappeared when I triedd to SEO them together. I still need to try the node manipulation - that seemed work fine to work around the chimney. Or at least it will once I get a handle on snapping properly to keep everything lining up properly

thanks for the help!
