shadow study method

I am trying to produce a study of overshadowing impact a proposed new house will have on the adjoining neighbour.
Have produced a plan view shadow movie quite easily, but need to do a study of the impact on the facing wall & windows (preferably a true elevational view). Is this possible?
When i've tried by marqueeing the required subject wall, no shadows appear (i assume because the new house is not within the marquee and therefore not appearing in the 3d window. With no marquee and all objects in 3d window i can't set view far enough back to show all required elevation in perspective (and anyway, i require an orthographic view).
Has anyone dealt with this issue before and found a method or workaround to achieve the required result?

Unfortunately, it is not possible at the moment.
I know what you're talking about as I have to deal with councils and an angry neighbourhood quite often.
It is a nightmarish and tedious work to get it done (but you know that, I suppose).
