ArchiCAD 12 (Mac OS 10.5.5) Sounds

Just getting used to AC12 after using AC10 for awhile.

The "eyedropper" used to make a satisfying sound to let me know that I had picked up (or injected) the attributes of a library part, wall, etc. Now it just makes the clunking sound... the one that usually means "hey dummy, you're not doing that right!". Tool still works and all, but the old sound would let you know for sure.

How do I get it back? Is this just a bug? I use this thing all day long.

Thanks

There is an option in the 'Work Environment' settings under 'More Options' to 'enable ArchiCAD sounds'.

On a PC, you can adjust the individual sounds in the windows control panel, in sounds and audio devices if you wish. I don't know where this option is on a mac.

Yeah, I have that option checked. If I un-check that option then of course I get no sound at all.

Upon further investigation, I'm noticing that all of the archicad sounds just produce a "clunk". E.g. the sound made when opening a 3D window.... clunk.
Intersect roofs... clunk.

I know folks who find the sounds annoying but I kind of like them.

Is it just me? Anyone else having this problem?

On my machine the inject properties and roof intersect have the same 'klung' sound but the open 3d window goes 'woop ping'!

I don't recall it being any different in AC10?

Have a look in the sounds folder in the ArchiCAD folder. That has all the sounds in it if you want to check.

Hmm.. I don't seem to have a "sounds" folder for either version.

Just to clarify, the "clunk" sound is just a generic system sound.

Looks like this might be a mac-only problem, judging from this other thread:

Yeah, no one has come up with any solution that I've heard. I find it very annoying and am shocked more users are not reporting it. Are the standard feedback sounds working for ANY mac user? Could anyone at GS comment of this?

Other Mac users are not reporting it because mine, and I suspect most other users are not having a problem. I get the the sounds we've always have had, right out of the box. Sorry, but I have no clue to how to help you.

It's a small sample of users, but I'm noticing something in these two threads: The users who have this problem are all using macbook pro computers. Or at least that's what's listed in their signatures.

Yes.....I really liked the aural feedback feature that I've been used to since V4.55. Since it's being mentioned, I'll 'chime' in.

Alot of Architects are somewhat musical and sound is definitely part of the work environment experience.

I've become a bit disappointed and even annoyed with the single 'system' sound from the Mac OS system. Since it's the OS system's 'problem' or 'I'm finished' sound, I find myself slowing down to check what just happened. Sometimes the sound doesn't even happen when I 'inject' an element's properties into another element.

On the other hand, its going to be problematic to keep programming in the 'older' PPC version of the Mac's operating system. Hopefully it can be brought back in the Intel versions.

Otherwise, we've just made computing/designing/documenting a little more boring.

My 2 cents.

Mark, It is interesting that you are having this problem on a G5... or at least I assume you are using a G5 based on your signature. I had started to think that this problem was limited to macbooks.

Let me reiterate that I still get all the right chirps and dings if I use AC10.... the problem is only in AC12, so I don't think it is totally a mac OS problem. I'm a version skipper so I can't speak to what happens in AC11.

Not sure what you mean about programming for PPC vs. Mactel, etc.
