BEST PRACTICE - 3 BUILDINGS IN ONE SITE

Hi

Does anyone know what would be the best way.

I have 3 complex large buildings, some single, one multistory block. I prefer to do build them separately and then probably hotlink them into a site model and then render outputs.

cos the buildings will be place at different levels on the site.

Do you think im going around this the best way?
or should I just do it all in one big file, but problem with stories, and levels.

Lots of ways to do this. Something that may help is to trun the buildings you are not working on into objects and place them in the drawing you are working on.

It depends on what you need the other buildings in the same plan for.

depends on what version of ArchiCAD you are using.

Could be Model View Options or Window Settings.

use a different fill. Can you show picture of it?

Each building in its own file is the sensible way of modeling them in a way to get reasonable CD's IMHO. Hotlink is the way to go, too, IMHO. You will probably want to give each hotlinked building a different master visibility layer so that you can turn each building on and off as needed.

The key to having everything appear properly in the master, hotlinked, site file is that the attributes must be identical for all 4 files. This takes a bit of discipline and the use of Options > Elements > Attribute Manager. If you add a new fill or material or complex profile (etc) to one building file, you must add it at the exact same index number (via 'overwrite') in the site file. To play it safe, I always add it to all files - otherwise you might add a new item for another building, and it will have the same attribute index number as a completely differently looking attribute in another building file.

The missing fill is an attribute problem - you may have purged, redefined, etc one of the standard fills. Even if you see the name of the fill, the index number may not be where the library is looking for it.

In addition to Karl's suggestion, see this topic:

Library Parts Not Working Properly

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.
