Hotlink problem - story settings and elevations

Hello,
I'm working on a project that is being designed in two parts. One half of the project is at an elevation 2100mm above the other. For the sake of this question lets say that the lower project is part A - ground floor starts at project zero, and the upper part B up the slope - ground floor starts at 2100mm above project zero. Each floor is 4000mm apart in each project.

In trying to figure out the best way to work with both these parts I came up with creating two separate project files, A and B. Then merging B into A via a Hotlink. ArchiCad asked to merge which floor and I said ground floor to ground floor. Unfortunately the project merges without consideration of Bs ground floor being above project zero by 2100mm.. they end up on the same level and I can't seem to modify that.

There's probably a better way of going about all this so feel free to tell me your preferred method of working on a project with more than one 'ground level' if you have one!

Try using a reference level for the lower level. I've done this successfully when it is a partial story difference.
Options>Project Preferences> Levels & Project North

When yo place objects check that the reference is to this lower level and not project 0

Granted, I didn't use the Project preferences method, just Inserted a story..
I had a look at the Prject Setting but could not see how to use these reference levels..

You can set 2 additional base reference levels for use in your work.
When you place an element you have a choice of which reference level you are placing it relative to.
