SAF import/export for Archicad

Hi,

I am trying to create a workflow around the SAF translator for Archicad and otehr strutural analysis software that support SAF.

In the first run I've tried out in Model Compare my current model against another .pln model imported for the second slot, everythign works fine.

When tryin to compare my model against a SAF (.xlsx) model exported from an identical Archicad file with the columns modified, it fails to show the second model, I can only see my current model.

I was using the default SAF translator used for Archicad 29.

My model is red, the second mdoel shoould be blue-ish.

What am I missing?Model compare.PNG

Thank you,

Operating system used: Windows 10

Are you doing the exact steps described in the Help files:

I've went through the entire step-by-step solution provided in the link provided, I did exactly the same thing before I opened the thread. For some reason nothing seems to work. I mostly used everything by Default.

When using .xslx (SAF) files it doesn't load any model to compare againts, it only works when using .pln file, but this way it defeats the whole purpose of using SAF file formats.

Is there a problem with SAF Translator settings which comes with Archiad?

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the workflow or how to use the SAF file format.

But it seems to me that you should be able to use an SAF exported from the model in Model Compare. (It is not even that it is coming from some other software.)

So, if this issue does not resolve, please report it to your local reseller.

Hi Laszlo,

I did some further tests and research, and something came out, it seems for some reason unknown the "outside model" from the SAF file is in a completely differrent 3d space thna the original 3d Model in the original file I am comparing against. I deleted the 3D views and I will try this again. I will come back with another answer or if I the wall trying to sort this out.

Thank you,

Unfortunately SAF import doesn't work properly in Archicad. SAF Translator was dubed to be the game changer and time saver in Archicad >> Structural analisys >> Archicad, but it seems it doesn't work OR I am doing something completely wrong.

If you import a .pln file it works just fine, but engineers don't use Archicad for structural analisys.

Importing a SAF file doesn't load the second model at all.

I see. Could you report this to your local reseller with the files attached? If it is indeed a bug, GS HQ will want to know about it.

I am planning to do that.

I have reached to the Software provider, but it was cluelessly when I raised the SAF workflow, he recomended the IFC workflow for structure, which is more combersome and it's easy to get comfused with this approach.

I did further test with SAF:

1. Using a default Archicad template and the SAF default Sample Translator seems to work. In Model Compare you can see the both models and manage everything from that using the Issue Manager.

2. When working on a project with some template settings, things start to fall apart. It seems that I manage to get the both models in Model Compare, the only problem is that one of the Models (seems like the Current Model) is in a completely different 3d space with completelly different coordinates, even though the model changes were exported from the same model.

I have come the the conclusion that I should start a new session from scrath, rebuild the template, so it worked, now Model Compare doesn't give any erros.

Didn't find the answer?
