cannot get hotlink module to line up with host

i have a terrain module file that i am trying to line up with the host model. i follow the steps to create a trace reference in the Mod file, move and rotate my terrain to line up with the host trace, save it then when i update the hotlink in the host, the terrain has moved but not to the right location or rotation. every time i try to update the Mod file, the terrain in the host moves a little more out of alignment.

two attached screen shots. you can see in the Mod file that i have the terrain where i want it, but in the host the selected terrain is both rotated incorrectly and not in the correct location. and yes, i am modifying the correct file, and saving it as a mod. and refreshing it in the hotlink manager.

By changing the position of the elements in the Module file in relation to it's Project Origin, the relative position of the placed Hotlink to it's Insertion Point will change. My guess would be that your trace origin in your Module file does not reflect that of the Hotlinks origin in the host file.

Hi Ling,

i guess that would explain the lateral or vertical placement, but not rotation. even having said that, the trace is located relevant to the host origin and i would assume then that by locating my object in relation to the trace, it should be correctly relating to the host origin.

but i am the last person to know anything about this.
