multiple layers to one

Is there a faster way to to a selection that contains various things, on multiple layers, and move them to one layer all at once?

I am sick to death of having to select the same layer over and over to move everything to one layer.

so far, this is the only software i have ever seen that does not work this way.

ctrl+shift+T
select the target layer
(you can over-ride pen assignment in this dialog box too).

He's a Mac user so the standard shortcut is "Command+Option+T"

Here is a little tip I like to use.
When changing the layers of many elements in a plan, turn off the target layer.
Then as you change the layer of the elements (either by just changing the layer in the info box or using the edit selection dialogue (which is much better for multiple element types)), you will see them disappear from the screen.
This way you can easily see if you have missed anything and you know for sure that the layer has changed.
Now just turn on the target layer to see all your elements again.

I just figured this out earlier this year, it saves a ton of time and trouble. You can change layer & pen color of a bunch of elements all in one click.
