BIMcloud as a Service - Create new user instead of inviting GSID?

Hi,

I'm trying to create new users for a BIMcloud as a Service instance, but I fail to find the "Create New User" option where I can just enter the username, e-mail address, etc. The only option I find is to invite existing GSIDs to the BIMcloud:

In BIMcloud Basic I (still?) have the option (it's in Hungarian, I've translated the relevant fields):

In the related BIMcloud as a Service Help I don't find any relevant info on how to create users "locally" first: "Use this workflow to invite a new user to BIMcloud, via their GSID. (The user must already have a GSID.)"

Well, "this workflow" could imply that there is another way to create users the "old" way.

Any thoughts on this one? I don't know the GSIDs of all the people, only their contact e-mails, do I really have to send e-mails to the prospective users, get the GSIDs confirmed, etc. before I can set this up?

I am 100% sure that I did not have to invite GSIDs in May 2024 (the last time I had to set users on a BIMcloud as a Service, I was working with BIMcloud Basic instances since then), I could just create the user, enter the e-mail, and then it was done. Please tell me, that I am missing something.

Can we get at least editable name fields after the user accepted the invitation?
With AC29 slowly rolling out of the garage and the corresponding ecosystem updates, I thought to check on this thread.

A common pattern:

User 1: First Name Last Name

User 2: Last Name First Name

User 3: e-mail

User 4: ACME Corporation

User 5: Darth Vader

...

While probably I would need them with this format:

[DISCIPLINE] LAST NAME, First name (Corp.)

[ARC] DOE, John (ACME)

Or for another case, at the university: name (with a mixture of local & international students, who are impossible to guess whether the administration got their names right), ID, course level (BSc, MSc, etc.) still would be nice to have in their names, in order to handle access granularity easily.

I remember when this task did not require me to have yet another spreadsheet open, or when I could prepare at my own pace instead of relying on everyone to finally accept the invitation.

There are only two hard things in Computer Science: cache invalidation and naming things.

I am having this same issue - I am able to create a new group on BIMcloud SAAS, but not a new user - I have synced the GSID for new staff with the license manager but since the BIM server requires a user name and password to log in to Archicad, there's no way to set this for a new staff member (we have everyone use the same password as it's easier to manage). Yes, the invitation has been accepted and a license has been issued. I have to keep the old BIMcloud Basic server running purely to create new user profiles - this is not progress and needs to be addressed.

I may be misunderstanding part of your workflow, but I’m not sure why the BIMcloud Basic server would need to remain running to create new user profiles for cloud-based licensing BIMcloud SaaS. As far as I know, BIMcloud Basic users cannot be imported into BIMcloud SaaS.

With BIMcloud SaaS using cloud licenses, users and licenses are managed through the Graphisoft company managementsite, not through BIMcloud Manager as with BIMcloud Basic or with legacy versions of BIMcloud SaaS. Once a user accepts the invitation into your Graphisoft ID company, they should appear in your BIMcloud SaaS manager on your web browser under the 'Users and groups' tab.

In this workflow, the BIMcloud login is not a separate local username and password managed in BIMcloud Manager. The user signs in with their own Graphisoft ID and password, the same account they can use for other Graphisoft services, such as the Support Site, Graphisoft Community, Graphisoft Learn, etc.

To add a new user to your BIMcloud SaaS; the company administrator or contract manager should invite the user to the Graphisoft ID company. If the invited user does not already have a Graphisoft ID, they will be prompted to create one when accepting the invitation.

After the user accepts the invitation and has the needed license access, they should be able to sign in to BIMcloud SaaS from Archicad using their Graphisoft ID credentials.

Hi@Jan Millan

That's just the thing - I followed the steps listed above, but the first time a new user logs in to the BIM server it always asks for login details, i.e. a user name and password. This is in addition to the GSID login. How do we get around this? Could ithis have something to do with the login defaulting to the BIMcloud basic as we still have this running along with the BIMcloud SAAS?

My workflow is just as you outlined:

  • I create a GSID for the new user
  • add them to the company profile (yes, they show up in the company after accepting the invite)
  • direct assign a license (we prefer not to have everyone pull from the license pool)

What am I missing?

The address to connect to your local BIMCloud Basic should be different from the BIMCloud SaaS one so there should not be any interaction. I sure hope external users are not being routed through your local network to get access to your BIMCloud SaaS...
