Multiple modules in a BIM-Server

Anonymous
Not applicable
Has anyone had any problem with multiple modules in a BIM-Server?

I'm currently running modules 15, 16 without problem and would like to install 17 as well but when talking to my IT-Guru he mentioned that another office have had enormous problems.

My current server (dedicated) is of god health and capacity and shouldn't have any problem running another module in theory.

So anyone else having problems?

Lasse,

theoretically it is not a problem to have three modules on your BIM Server, but based on our experience the best is having the maximum of two modules. One for the newest version that is rolled out in your office and one older where you have the projects that haven't been migrated yet.

After all projects have been migrated you can uninstall the older one to have only one module. Having more modules require additional resources.

Just for what it is worth, we never had any problems with modular bimservers as long as no other services (databases, filemaker, mail, etc.) are also running - note however, we only use mac mini's and have no experience with windows based servers.

regarding migrating projects into AC17 though, i would be very careful though… in fact since we had various bad experiences in the past, we tend to keep files in the version they were started in.
