Controlling shadows generated in section/elevation windows

Is it possible to control the display order of shadows seperately from that of the model surface?
Due to slight changes in wall direction showing as lines in an elevation we are overdrawing the model with brick line type opaque fills to cover these 'imperfections'. However, the fills also mask the cast shadows (which we dont want). I know we could unlink the s/e but would rather not at this stage (it's still useful to be able to edit window positions, sizes etc in the s/e window).

Any ideas, anyone?

Hi CSP,

Not certain if am clear what you are trying to achieve, "display order"[?], but............the attached screen shot shows the optional sun settings for sections/elevations. If you are literally redrawing them you might choose a fill with pens you like and draw in your shadows if the settings dialog box isn't offering enough choices for you. Buy setting your fills exactly the same they should seamlessly blend, as well as give you the opportunity to layer your fills for the desired effect.

Have you tried selecting the shadow fill and bring it to the front or bring forward. PC "shift" +"F6" or go to TOOLS then DISPLAY ORDER and then select BRING FORWARD or BRING TO TOP. This might help you. Usually I have unlinked my elevation when generating shadows.

What I'm trying to do is show the cast shadows, on top of an applied fill with a white background, which is itself on top of the model elements. It may not be possible as the generated shadows are not selectable, so you cant do ' display order....bring forwards..' unless you unlink from the model, which we dont want to do!
If I find a solution I will post it here in case anyone else wants to work this way.

I think this is not possible currently as the shadow fill is linked to the element it casts its shadow on. If you bring your drawn fill forward so it overlaps the unneeded lines on the Wall for example, it will overlap also the shadow fill. If you send it backwards the drawn fill so the shadow fill overlaps it, the Wall will overlap it as well and the unneeded lines will show.

In this case create another elevation/section line parallel with the elevations that you are creating shadows for and then unlink it. selected the shadow fill and then copy and paste it onto the unlinked elevation and then if you need delete the unwanted elevation/section lines. Then you can control the display order.
PS. group the shadow fill for easy use.
