Half-Fuzzy walls

I keep getting odd goings-on with a particular material (matte: ambient + diffuse = 1.0; rough: scale + ampl = 0.01, detail=3, sharpness=1; colour=doesn't matter).

In the attached image, that material is applied to all the walls and the floor - the wall on the right looks fine, but the others are behaving oddly - it's hard to explain, so please see the picture. I'm guessing it's something to do with the lighting, but not sure what. I've experimented for ages with different lights, and get similar results.

Any ideas how even out my walls?

When you get grainy shadows, it is because of lack of resolution in the shadows - so look at your light sources.

If there are any parameters referring to shadow quality or resolution, put these values up over 3.

What if my light source is General Light, which doesn't have any shadow quality settings?

(P.S - Thanks for your help, this is probably all in the magic book, which I still haven't had a chance to read much yet)

Just a guess, but I would try to either:
- decrease the detail factor
- increase the sharpness factor
in your roughness settings.

Just to test, completely eliminate roughness from the surface - I was wrong about shadow resolution...

Thanks - I increased my sharpness from 1 to 3 and it has seemed to solve the problem.

Tried this as well, but it made the walls a bit glarey. But, you were right about shadow resolution, I added a window light with shadow resolution at 3, and the rough bits went away...
