In California every 4th grade student is required to study the historic California Missions. It is a worthwhile effort since the program motivates parents to spend a little quality time with their kids with visits to the local missions, trips to the library, etc. It is also interesting to see the immediate interest the kids take for architecture. The large solid adobe forms, covered with brilliant white stucco, contrasted with deep brown hand hewn timbers and spanish clay tile roofs have influenced thousands of architects and the effect of this early California style is also appreciated by the school children.
