NCS Color Palette

I do most of my modeling in Open GDL and add enough color and some textures
so I can email images to clients. I also have been taking a 27" iMac for which I have a special carry bag to make client presentations and do fly throughs.

The standard colors are pretty limited and I wind up make making many shades of colors, which is tedious and not always exactly what I want. I did a search and apparently Graphisoft has an agreement with the NCS color system (the Scandinavian Color Institute) so their colors can be used within ArchiCad.

I didn't find anything in particular on the NCS or Graphisoft website. Does anyone know about this system or have used it?

thanks!

Also, if anyone knows of another system/palette that is available or they like, I would be interested in that also.

Thanks!

Thanks Laszlo!

I updated to the latest version of 18 and followed the installer directions for the
RAL color system and am not able to complete the installation. I tried multiple times with no success.

Has anyone installed and used this system?

thanks,

I tried it and I could install it fine.
One thing I noticed is that when I clicked the Help\ArchiCAD Downloads link, it took me to the AC19 download page.
The "More about Add-Ons & Goodies" link to me to the Add-Ons page.
There the 'Download Goodies for ARCHICAD" link took me to the languages selection page. The "INT" link took me to the AC19 INT Goodies download page. And there I had to click the "Goodies for ARCHICAD 18" link to finally get to the AC 18 INT Goodies download page.
At first I didn't notice this and downloaded the AC19 version, which is obviously not the one I needed.

After that the installation was fine.

One thing I am thinking is maybe your Java version. This can cause installations not to be successful sometimes.

Otherwise, the RAL Colours Add-On was installed, then the "Import RAL Colors" command appeared in the Options menu. If you click it then you need to find a *.pal file to import colors from. I found the "840_Test.pal" file found in the "Add-Ons\Goodies\RAL Colour System\RAL folder" contains 194 standard RAL color one or more of which you can import and they will be converted to standard ARCHICAD Surfaces.

Hey Don,

Not an automated solution, but one I use often is look up the RGB values of named colours at http://encycolorpedia.com/ and create a duplicate of one of the preset paint surfaces. Just swap out the three RGB values in openGL and Cinerender settings.

Over time you end up with a fair collection of colours that you can import/export with attribute manager.

Laszlo & Erwin:

Thanks for the help! Erwin I haven't tried that link and it may wind up being what I do.

Laszlo, I tried again with no success. I did find the file you mentioned and loaded it, but no colors showed up in surfaces. I did notice that the Graphisoft Goodies for AC 18 says that the goodies are for build 3006 and the AC should be the same build number. I'm at 8004? and I also noticed that the 840_Test.pal is an EXEC. Is that a PC file because I'm on Mac.

thanks again,

Don

After you install the goodies run the latest hotfix again.
This should upgrade them to the latest version as well.

Thanks Barry. So I tried to run the latest hot fix again, but it simply tells me it has already been updated and won't allow me to select AC 18 v8004. Am I misunderstanding you?

No you are not misunderstanding me.
As far as I know it is supposed to work.
But it seems the installer is simply looking at the Archicad version and not allowing the update.
It certainly does update goodies when it can update Archicad.
This is from the goodies web page.
If goodie is located in the 'ARCHICAD 19/ Add-Ons' folder (or in any of its sub-folders), the ARCHICAD Hotfix installer will update the goodie tool. You do NOT have to download the goodie again after installing an ARCHICAD Hotfix.
The only sure fire way I know to upgrade then is to re-install, add goodies then update.
