Save and place rendering on a layout?

I have been creating some renderings for the architectural review committee here in palm desert, CA and thought it might be nice to use the save and place view rather than brining it in as an external content jpg. Here is the catch though, my preference is to use the open gl window in the orbit mode and use the print screen button because it provides a much better no lines image when you find a view you like and go to orbit mode and click once in the picture. This takes the lines out and leaves a much more natural looking rendering.
The problem is I can't get this to work using the save view and place on a layout, doing this reverts the image back to a full locked all the lines showing open gl image which is not as good IMHO.
Is there any way to get the softer orbit mode image placed on a layout so that it will update and stay as the softer image.
Am attaching images showing the difference between the orbit mode image in open gl and a fully generated image in open gl.

Here is what it looks like saved as a screen shot from the orbit mode in open GL.

You just need to turn off Contours in 3D Window settings.

Those are the 'contours' which you can disable in the 3D window. (I almost always have mine turned off.) To disable, see:

Edit: Stuart, you're too fast. 🙂 The link above might still help.
