Sketch Render to Piranesi

In reanding through some previous posts on .epx files, I thought a
rendering form the sketch engine could be saved as a .epx file but that
is not available in the drop down list of the "save as" dialog. It does
appear for the internal engine how ever. Is it possily to get a epx file
out of the sketch render?

Thanks

I can't recall if it is directly possible, Dave. But, there is an easy solution that I posted a few years ago -

Piranesi has the option to import any image to replace the RGB channel of the open epx file - the material and depth channels remaining untouched.

So, all you have to do is set save your epx file from the internal or LW engine, then change only the rendering engine to sketch (keep exactly the same camera position and pixel dims), render to sketch and save the image.

Open the epx in Piranesi, then import your sketch image. Save. You now have a sketch epx file.

(Depending on your artistic goals, it can be useful to overlay the sketch render with a LW render in Photoshop first and use THAT image as the new RGB to work with in Piranesi ... or to work in Piranesi and then do the Sketch overlay on the result.)

Cheers,
Karl

PS Left out an important step. After importing the sketch (or other replacement RGB image), you must do a 'render' to replace the 'restore RGB channel' with that image. Then, you can save and have an epix file as if it were created with the sketch engine.

Karl,

Brillant, replacing the restore channel with the sketch render is
something that i most likely never would of thought of.

Thanks again for your help.

You're welcome. If you find your resulting image interesting, please consider sharing it here - it has been years since anyone posted a Piranesi image in this forum.

Cheers,
Karl
