Hello,

I created this little scene and rendered it lastnight, I can't believe that a Lightworks novice like me can create such real life images so quickly.

Graphisoft has done an incredible job with 9.0 and lightworks.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

This is my first attempt doing a stereo anaglyph image. To get the effect you need a pair of Red/Blue glasses. I did this using Strata's built in Stereo image camera setting but it is perfectly feasible to do in ArchiCAD with two cameras set the distance your eyes are set at plus a bit of Photoshopping.

Looks amazing when you project it to half life size with a digital projector

You can get free glasses here

enjoy!

Art*Lantis chrome and glass reflection.
to bad we can't post pictures with higher resilution. you really can't see much in a 256kb image

I am in shock at the huge render times it is taking others to generate a good picture.

Not so shocking really as your images appear to be raytraced rather than radiosity renderings. There is quite a difference between the two, if you compare for example the shadows created by the glazing on the floor in your image they are very sharp which is fine for a sunny day in California not really what you get in Edinburgh even at the height of summer

Other things to notice are that I have used a volumetric effect on my light source to simulate the effect of the light shining through the windows and illuminating bits of dust in the air, I haven't made it that visible as I didn't want it to be to "cheesey" but it is there. The whole way a radioisty render engine calculates the image is a much more intensive process than how a Raytraced image works. All this adds up and so the rendering time is much longer.

Whether you feel it is worth the wait or not is a matter of personal taste.

Here is Justin's image showing the layer control you can have with each render. I think you can do this type of control with animations too. It requires some Adobe application, can't think of the name right now.
Adobe After Effects. Or Autodesk Combustion.

The example file cannot be loaded correctly in ArchiCAD 9.0. I need additional libraries (from ArchiCAD 7.0, which I never had, since I jumped from 6.0 to 8.x).

How to open the scene with all geometry intact?
Any chance to provide a PLA-file?

By the way, opening the file (exported as 3ds) in Cinema4D revealed 232 lights being used 😉 That might explain a thing or two about the rendering times, considering the amount of light sources that have been created!

Problem is the archive file even zipped is 1.1mbs so I've posted it on my website here http://homepage.mac.com/fuzzytnth3/TLOTT

Obviously I won't keep it there forever so grab it now as I will remove it at the end of the month.

Fuzzy, you are right. faikiosity in not good enough. I can not make a good rendering with the software the software I have. Thats why I was so dissapointed with the LightWorks engine we got with ArchiCAD 9. I wanted radiosity. I don't think 2 hrs is to long for a an exelent rendering with radiosity. It is way to long for a 800x600 72dpi rendering with radiosity. I made that quicky rending to compare with the LightWorks engine we have in ArchiCAD. Not to compare with radiosity software.
I can soften those shadows in Art*lantis so fast it is almost like doing it in real time. You can watch it is change as it builds the sceen in seconds. Not hours.
