Am I missing something? I seem to remember an article awhile ago about how to match a camera to an view from a photo. I cannot find anything about this anywhere. Is there a way to do this other that just adjusting, eyeballing and strectching in Photoshop?

the tool is called "Align View" - fairly well explained in the manual.

but photo distortion must still be adjusted for in Photoshop.

In rendering, always render to a white background and place the image in Photoshop only using the photo backdrop in ArchiCAD as a target confirmation.
