textures not showing, weirdness

A client of mine (I am not the ArchiCAD user, I am IT support) has the following behavior:

When opening a file in ArchiCAD 15 and then going to a 3D view, no textures appear on materials initially. As soon as any movement or selections are made, the textures appear and client can navigate the environment as expected. However, if the user then closes and reopens that same file or a different file, textures never appear again. If you close out of ArchiCAD completely and start again, textures work again.

We have 3 similar workstations (identical in hardware) that run ArchiCAD. Same graphics card, same driver. We've tried reinstalling the graphics card driver to no avail. Checked to make sure all settings are same.

This machine also has ArchiCAD 13 and 14 and textures work fine in those.

And ideas on how to fix this or diagnose where the problem is would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks.
Ben

Hi Ben

what graphics card are you using? check that it's compatible with OpenGL - I'm you'll have done this already though. you could also try fiddling with the settings in the work environment - in Archicad, go to Options>Work Environment>Advanced Redraw Options. or try checking the OpenGL options under the 3D window Settings dialog. it does seem to me to be a driver/compatibility issue as it's not a consistent problem.

Nvidia Quatro FX580. I will try doublecheck the Archicad settings again but last I checked, they were identical to another machine that was running smoothly.
The problem is consistent. It fails to render textures initially, then works after a screen move, then fails again after opening a new drawing.
Thanks for your reply. Any other ideas?

hmmm. I'm stumped I'm afraid. is it perhaps where your libraries are stored? do you have custom textures or are you only using the textures that ship with archicad? if the libraries become unlinked then textures won't show, but it shouldn't happen when you pan/navigate in 3D.

After making sure you updated the OS and video card drivers, also check to make sure that your ArchiCAD settings and display settings under nvidia's control panel are the same with the settings on the machines where there are no issues. If all steps don't resolve the issue - you mentioned that you have identical machines, I would take this opportunity to swap video cards to verify if the video card is at fault here.

How did you go with the problem? Any update?
I also have a client who has a similar problem after we replaced an 8600 nvidia card with a quadro 600 card.
Any help would be appreciated thanks

I'm getting texture weirdness as well. I didn't use v15 but I am having the textures not apply similar to above as you can see in the following pics in v16.

To fix it I have to open the material manager and I usually adjust the transparency on the the first material the pops up and set it back to where it was then close the material manager and when I do that the engine regens the model and the textures reappear. But adjusting any setting on any material resets the on screen rendering. This happens to me frequently. My sig is up to date and my computer was recently updated so I'm 99% pretty sure my vid drivers and such are latest so I can say I've had this behavior before and after updating.

After resetting with the material manager trick.
