up light source rendering black

I am quite new to lightwave and havent really played with it yet, but i am having trouble with an uplight source rendering as a black cone coming from the source, it is actually diminishing light where it should be getting greater. I have left settings as default as far as I can remember.

Any sugesstions before I get back into the office monday and have another play?

Other light lib parts are ok, just this one without hardware. AC9
