vanishing hatch in sketch

I am a bit baffled by the results of the two attaches renderings. I am using the sketch render engine to develop artistic composite plans. However the hatch surface texture disappears when i place some furniture over it. This odd behavior does not happen on the floor below. All rendering settings are identical as I basically relocate the furniture off from the deck and the surface texture appears normally. Will keep fiddling but would appreciate advice.

Does the same happen when you put furniture on top of the tiled area?
