Sketch Rendering & Vectorial Hatching

Dave Jochum

Scratching my head. When sketch rendering, the vectorial hatching only shows in shadow areas. (see image below) I've tried every setting I can think of with no success. What's really annoying, is I have not had this problem in the past--all past renderings have been fine and I thought I was using the same settings. (see second image) Baffled...

I don't know if this is the answer or not.
But I noticed there is a 'Clarify Remote Area' option for the hatch line settings.
Turning this off makes the hatch lines much more visible.
It may be dependent on other settings as to what effect it has.

Thanks, Barry, but I have had Clarify Remote Settings unselected. I did try selecting it and didn't notice much difference--unlike your example. What's really baffling me is that the sun seems to be wiping out my hatching, but if I turn off 'Vectorial Sun Shadows', no hatching shows at all in the rendering. Adjusting the 'Sunlight..." in 'Perspective Settings' also has no effect on the hatch showing.

My previous "good renderings" were all done in AC20. Now in 21, so don't know if something has changed that I'm not aware of.

The hatch line thickness is the only other option I can think of that would affect the line visibility.
But the hatch thickness looks fine in the shadows.

Certainly seems like the sun is washing it out.
However the sun strength in Archicad seems to have no effect on the sketch render.

Have you tried activating another scene?
Make sure you have your custom scene saved (stored) first so you can go back to it.

You could even export your scene, zip it and post it here and maybe we can have a look at it.
Or take a few screen shots of your settings.

I am using the latest preview build (5002) for version 21 - not sure if updating will make a difference if you haven't done so already.

On the rare occassion I've had weird bugs with sketch render, picking one of the preset scenes forces a reset of whatever was bugging out. You could try that and then set things back up the way you like them. Also try setting paper roughness to 0%.

Barry and Erwin--Thank you for your input. I finally found the culprit, though I still don't understand it. When COVER FILLS are set to SOLID BACKGROUND in GRAPHIC OVERRIDES this problem occurs. When I deleted that override, the sketch render shows all hatching in both sunlit areas and shadow. Makes no sense to me, but that's the deal. I tried all the other ideas first with no improvement (paper roughness, reset, etc.)

Interesting, thanks for the reply.
I don't use cover fills or the graphic overrides that much but I will give it a try when I get a minute.

I use Graphic Overrides a fair amount, but I did not make this change to my 3D presets. As I said, I have sketch rendered this project several times over its life. This is the first time, however, since upgrading to AC21.
