Ability to do Math in the Tracker

TaniavH

Provide the ability to do math in the Tracker - the ability to input math into the pet palette dimensions and have Archicad do the calculation for you. For example, if I want to move an object over by the space of 5/8” gyp, ½” ply, a 2x4 plus another 5/8” gyp – I can input “0.0625+.5+3.5+0.625” instead of “5.25”

This can already be done now by typing the operator after the value in the tracker.

So in your case add and extra + afterwards ... 0.0625+.5+3.5+0.625+

But I believe it is much easier with metric units rather than Imperial.

@Barry Kelly I don' think that's what @TaniavH is asking for, but to be able to several sums in a row or a formula in order to determine a distance. Personally I, sometimes felt the need for that.

Each number then + will add to the previous total until you hit ENTER.

It is not super intuitive but it works and can reduce errors, actually.

For example, when you click to extend the wall, you can type "2/" to halve its length, and immediately after that "10+" to add 10 to the previous operation. If you do that to a wall that is 100 units long, the end result will be 60 units long. Also, If you move the control point to another snap point but you want the wall to be shorter by 10 units, you hold the mouse snapping to the point and just type "10-".

I got used to it rather quickly and use it daily.

The current implementation broke existing imperial units tracker workflows and despite constantly promising a fix (since 2023) have never arrived so the Distance and + trick does not work consistently. I wouldn't trust GS to do this correctly.

I hadn’t realized multiplication and division had been added to the Tracker in Archicad 27. That definitely covers a good part of what was being asked and, to be fair, makes the original request less essential.

@Barry Kelly , I appreciate you laying out how the Tracker works. Just so it's clear, I've been using Archicad for around 25 years, so I’m familiar with those features — but I genuinely didn’t know about the recent addition of multiplication and division.

Still, what I found interesting in the original suggestion was the idea of going a bit further — allowing more complex formulas directly in the Tracker. I get that this probably wouldn't be used every day, and maybe it doesn’t justify the development effort, but there have definitely been moments where I’ve found myself reaching for a calculator, wishing I could just type the expression straight in.

It’s one of those small quality-of-life features that wouldn’t revolutionize anything, but could make a subtle difference in certain workflows. I’m totally open to the idea that it’s not worth the time to implement, but I do think it’s a valid wishlist item to at least consider.
