Drawing Title with Optional North Arrow for US market

TaniavH

way back when this was available for the Australian market, but I believe it has since disappeared. There is nothing like this for the US market and it would be much appreciated!

If we already have the ability to toggle on a graphic scale in drawing titles, why not also an option to toggle on a north arrow which rotates with the project north - it would be a huge time saver.

At present we need to place a separate north arrow on the end of the titles for plan views which share the sheet with other drawings. Placing a north arrow on the master layout is not ideal when types of placed views vary.

Is placing the North object in the view not an option?

I would say it is better in the plan rather than the title.

If you rotate the view in the layout, would the title take that into consideration?

Having North symbol in the plan it will always be correct.

it works for plan views which are the same scale - but we don't want to have to place multiple North arrows all over the place to accommodate enlarged and cropped views which would then have to be managed by layers - if this title existed regionally before I don't see why it can't be reinstated?

This!

If you look at it historically North arrows were always something you wanted to compose on the sheet, not IN the drawing. Either somewhere around the plan, or in a corner of the sheet etc, but very rarely something you want in the drawing. It's a mystery why GS forces us to place it into the model space. We should have title bar North arrow options and even individual arrows placeable on layouts, master layouts.

BTW, did that title really exist for Australian market? I'm asking because many years ago we had our custom title bars scripted with a consultant, and the North arrow got delayed for later. I forgot what the reason was. But if I can point them to an object that already had that option that may make their job easier next time.

We had the same desire in our office, so we created a new Drawing title, where the Bubble can act as the location.  It follows the Project Location settings,

So we have a toggle in the drawing title properties, where it can be a north arrow for a plan, or the standard cell callout

If a view is rotated for any reason, the north arrow can be overridden with a rotation angle.

@JeffH , that's cool! Is there a way the rotation can be automated (project location setting + angle of rotated view + angle of rotated drawing)? I guess if there were you would have done it, but worth asking...

I don't recall ever trying to have it set up that way.

Our office's GDL knowledge was already being put to the test to get it to work, as is,

That would be an improvement for sure, but the manual rotation we added works for our needs.
