Building Material Modifiers of Complex Profiles

Instead of using different profiles for every single building material with the same shape it would be really great to be able to change only the building material itself. Especially when the profile consists of one single fill.

I think it can be done now by splitting element and overriding the building material but later we hope to see segmented walls as columns and beams.

Hi All,

Thank you very much for sharing this great idea!

I am happy to say we took notice of this wish and I have added it to our Wish List database (please refer to it as IDEA-9218). Hopefully, our Product Management team will adopt this one in the future.

Thank you all once more, and I wish you a great day!

Best regards,
Minh

Thanks for the suggestion.

During development of the offset modifiers, we considered many other types of modifiers that could be possible in the future - including potentially switching out building materials. So appreciate the support for such an idea.

I'd be interested to know some examples, where you'd want the same profile, but would want to switch out the building material for some instances. Any screenshots would also help.

I've moved this to 'on hold' for now.

Although I'm not the creator of this wish, I've been thinking about this almost every time when I had to duplicate profile to change one building material.

As my latest example I'm adding a screenshot of a profile for ending the flat roof. In some cases I want to use brick and sometimes I need concrete to extend load bearing parts of the building.

I believe there is many cases where this is applicable

Thanks @Karel Landa

You can workaround this now with the offset modifiers, by creating 2 overlapping fills, add a modifier to each fill, and when placed set one fill depth as 0. I can try to create a video of the workflow if it helps.

Obviously a new modifier would be a simpler workflow, or perhaps longer term a way to use Graphic Overrides at skin level to replace the building material that's being displayed would be a more flexible workflow.....

 Hi @James B,

I hope I can model this wall without splitting it into 2 elements in order to change the BM for the internal skin, the segmented Composite or CP wall can be a good enhancement as Beam & Column.

Away from overriding surfaces.
