Design Options for Element Sufaces

It would be useful if element surfaces were linked to design options. This would be especially helpful for apartment block designs, as the Hotlinked units are the same across the various floors, expect the exterior cladding typically changes.

Currently you have to create whole new walls and assign these to different options. This becomes cumbersome when changing windows and doors, and is confusing for less experienced users.

That's the birth defect of the Design Options!

You can only manage geometry, not state (like attribution).

I don't think it's possible to change this without making a new DO tool from scratch – but yeah, I agree! This is how the DO should have worked from the start.

Could you place a slab that is on the appropriate DO, and do an SEO (subtract) and have it inherit the SLABS surface?

Birth defect... Zzz...

While that should work for 3D representation, you now have an inconsistency between your floorplan and other drawings since SEO are not represented in the floorplan...

If you join the party of modeling skins seperately that could be Design Optioned, and with my wish regarding Opening Tool integration would actually be a relatively smooth workflow. At the current state, this workflow is so jank...

We use that for the approach for accent wall paint colors on the interior Gyp Bd surface of a complex profile wall.

A slab or morph that is only overlapping by something negligible like 1/64"

It keeps us from having to have additional complex profiles.

It also never fails that the room below or above doesn't have them same paint color...So the SEO / Inherit from Operator works for us.
