Work Environments (WEs) in Archicad are powerful, but switching between them is slow, disruptive, and buried in menus. For users who wear multiple hats — modeling, documenting, managing BIM standards, scripting, etc. — it should be possible to switch WEs instantly, just like Fast User Switching in macOS.
The goal is to make changing WEs feel effortless and immediate, so users can jump between task-specific setups without friction.
Proposed Features:
A dropdown menu, toolbar button, or dockable palette for one-click access to saved Work Environments.
Option to assign keyboard shortcuts to instantly load specific WEs.
Why This Is Important:
Reduces Friction: Switching WEs currently takes too many clicks and breaks workflow — this would make it instant.
Supports Multi-Role Users: Most users don’t just model or document — they do both (and more). Each task benefits from a tailored interface and shortcut setup.
Streamlines UI Management: No more wasting time rearranging palettes or hunting for tools depending on what you're doing.
In Summary:
This feature would make Work Environment switching feel natural, fast, and task-oriented — empowering users to adapt their UI to what they’re doing in real-time, with zero friction. It’s about giving Archicad the flexibility modern workflows demand — like fast user switching, but for power users inside a single project.
