IDs for Surfaces

Josh Verran

It would be great if there was an ability to add an ID to the surface names, similar to how building materials can have an ID.

It would be used in scenarios like auto-text labels, keys/legends etc.

An example would be:
P1 = paint red
P2 = paint blue
P3 = paint yellow
etc

An auto-text label could then be used on plans to annotate the wall linings, finish etc.
Eg: L1 / P2 / F1

@James B
Why do you think Architects use Excel or other tools to document things that are otherwise already half documented in Archicad?

Is it because they love Excel so much, and want to be able to access (and mess up) the schedules outside Archicad, or
Is it because Archicad can't natively deliver what they need?

The sad part is (as with so many things in Archicad), that the software delivers 90-98% of the required solution, it holds all the required info, just it is not possible to present the data in an acceptable format. That missing 2-10% in these cases may render the other 90-98% useless, because a completely manual process has to be introduced just to organise the data in the required format.

Hi @Karoly Horvath

I'm not disputing that you and your office would like to contain all this data in Archicad. This is why your feedback and examples are continually useful for future planning in this area.
