attributes in use - indicate in attribute settings

I would love to see an indication of which attributes are used IN the attribute editor, not only in the attribute manager.
it seems unnecessary to jump back and forth between the attribute manager and attribute editor just to check which pens, fills, surfaces, etc. are bing used. [checkbox column in att man]. If I am editing a surface, and am uncertain wether it is actually 'in use', I have to double check via the attribute manager every time? so clunky!
