It works if I open the BimX Desktop Viewer first and then load the file instead of directly clicking on the bimX file.

I think I may have found the solution. Under 'Work Environment/Dialog Boxes and palettes/ thens a tick box to keep "Archicad palettes visible even when another application is in front".

Slightly off topic. We updated to Mac Sierra and noticing that we're losing links of images, drawings and translators on our network. We have installed the ArchiCad hotfixes.
