Saving 3ds

hey, i try to write a script which export floors automatic to 3ds files.
I want to create a button which saves a 3ds file of my floor plan wherever i tell him.
can you please direct me what to learn from the api devkit?

I don't know anything about the API, but I want to just clarify your question.

You're wanting a script bound to the preferred key that will export (as .3ds) your current floor plan to a predetermined (?) location? Say with a naming convention following [file name]_[story name].3ds?
