Sructural Software for Archicad

Do you know that Revit recently was fully integrated with Risa Plan an Risa 3D. And checking I found that Ram is doing it also.

I wonder when AC is will move and have a Structural Engineering Analysis & Design Software integration.

The way we go you could not add a mansard wihout submitting a documented proof of lateral force verification.

Have a look at Tekla: http://www.tekla.com

This is supposedly IFC compliant. Still trying to verify which version.

Really?
from a Tekla web site FAQ:
Does Tekla support an open interface standard for all willing parties?

Yes! Tekla has released the first completely integrated solution for structural design. This does not mean we are not an open system. Vice versa. The tightly integrated Tekla Structures totally opens up new opportunities for collaboration. Tekla is ready and willing to fulfill the collaboration needs around structural design with open interfaces such as CIS/2, IFC, COM, etc....
Have spoken with the Canadian rep for Tekla and he tells me he's looking into specifics. I'll post something when he gets back to me.

As a rejoinder to the previous post, if anyone on this board has ready access to Tekla contacts (in the company, clients, colleagues or friends) using Tekla, I would be very happy to receive an e-mail.

It you are familiar with it then let us know:

How widely is used in the US

Has Masonry and wood modules

Has the US light gage manufacturer product and has light gage capability

Has timely updates to US codes
Tekla is for concrete and steel.

Tekla does adhere to the CIS/2 standard - another interoperability data model - that much is clear from their web site. What is CIS/2?

Timely article published today an AEC Bytes:

http://www.aecbytes.com/buildingthefuture/CIS2format.htm

The article points to the inevitable linkage between CIS/2 and IFC.

It says to me that BIM is here in a meaningful way for all design disciplines.

For the European users:

ArchiCAD is linked for quite some time with AxisVM. People who know finite elements analysis say it works.

Does not do reinforcement detailing, though.

Check www.axisvm.com, or, better, http://www.axisvm.com/axisvm_for_archicad.htm

Would love to see AC have a Connection to RISA-3D, any thoughts on that GS. Eventhough I am on Mac I use RISA-3D via Vertual PC.
Thanks,

I have evaluated Ram (steel + Frame + Advanced) and Risa - (Plan and 3D)

Impressed with both of them ( Ram is more efficient for production)

I have looked in to Tekla. Tekla is Xsteel detailer and STAD with a IFC compatible 3D interface so models could be imported in AC. Tekla may have some short coming in the area of composite beams (100% composite or none) and the way it selects joists. All this info is from third party and not from Tekla and this because they take a loooong time to get back (the EU spirit). I am not interested in the connection part and I believe the price will be high because of this, I am waiting until Monday.
