ArchiCAD + dwg = crash

No matter what way I try to bring a dwg into archiCAD it always ends with archiCAD crashing, any suggestions?

ArchiCAD is latest version, Windows Vista might be the problem. Anyone else had this problem.

So you tried all of the following:
1. Open the DWG file.
2. Merge the DWG file.
3. Attach the DWG file as an XREF.
4. Place the DWG file as a Drawing.
5. Open the DWg file as a Library Object.

Does any one of these work or they all crash?

Have I left anything out?

Then probably there is something in that DWG file that ArchiCAD does not like.
Try to get the file again, maybe in DXF or a different DWG version and try again. That's the best I can recommend for now.

So those DWG/DXF files work on XP but do not work on Vista?
That would be interesting.
Let me know.

The files work fine with XP, I struggled to get vista and archiCAD working properly, XP is the way to go.

Whats wrong with Vista

-I had trouble with archiCAD saving data used in some addons and needed to set program permissions and fight with UAC to get it to work.
-I could not drag and drop mod files, dunno why, but it wouldn't let me, never found a way to fix that.
-DWG-DFX intergration into jobs failed horribly.
-It was slow, now that I got XP running I realised just how slow vista was with archicad.

Downgrading my dell laptop to XP from vista was a marathon in itself as technically dell does not support XP on the inspiron 1720 but the hassel of downgrading was well worth the effort for the functionality and speed I have gained.

Yes, this looks like a larger issue than simply DWG/DXF files not working.
You'll probably be fine with XP for quite a while.
I myself do not plan to upgrade to Vista for quite a while.
I would say I will upgrade when some of the below occurs:
1. I have projects which require more than 2 GB of RAM. Then I will need a 64-bit operating system to be able ot use more memory in ArchiCAD.
2. If several of my other programs I must use will be avaiable only on Vista.
3. When I hear from many different sources that Vista is better than XP.

Amen.

In the end, they will force me to Mac. Not that I would resist too much ...

I am having the same problem. I use windows XP. Before upgrading to 1114 everything was working fine. After that, any DWG or DXF file dont open, and Archicad crashes. I cant export nothing to DWG or DXF too.
