Bind XREF on DWG export.

Sorry if this is elsewhere. I searched but didn't find an answer.

I'm using and Xref'd DWG in a project that I need to export to send to an engineer. The engineer wants the Xref bound to the file when I send it. I can't seem to configure translation to bind it on export.... There is a setting in Translation setup that says Place Drawings into: with the choices Linked Xref drawings and Single DXF/DWG File. This seems obvious but doesn't seem to make any difference. Both choices produce a separate Xref folder....

I think I understand what that choice is about in the translation setup. I just need a way to bind the Xref on export.... The dumb way is to save the project bind the Xref, export the DWG then quit without saving the project as a way to "undo" the bind... that is crazy....

thoughts?
