Maxon Freeform in ArchiCad

"SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT – JUNE PROMOTION!

Graphisoft and Maxon are happy to announce a new partner solution for ArchiCAD called FreeForm. Based on Cinema 4D, FreeForm allows users of ArchiCAD to edit elements of building models as parametric primitives; with extrusions, holes, planes, points and paths; or with deformers and form generators, providing total design freedom!"

I'm not sure what this is, but it sounds pretty interesting. Total design freedom? I like that. Anyone care to comment.

In the attached image there is a section of a commercial center I was involved in. (Builded project). I made some red lines for the levels-floors of the building. In yellow is one of the cinema halls.
How one could model this section in ArchiCAD??
The first thing that one should think , is the way you build it... level by level!
And how is that, when the hall in yellow is builded as a whole entity ? The walls on the sides are full wight steel beams with sound insulated gypsum board walls cover with panels which cover the whole height and have to be modeled as one entity...
If you choose to make these higher walls in one story then you have no cinema plans on the above levels....If you chose to split it then what happens with the rows of seats?? Can one split them???
Has anyone in GS ever tried to make such a building in ArchiCAD ?????
No nothing is curved, everything is in XYZ and still there is a problem.
Why??? Because there is no ability to show a wall on the above floor , and no ability to cut elements on a desired level! That would be an improvement!!
Sorry If I went off topic but since the talk went to real life buildings ....

I've tried doing the same kind of thing in both AC and Vectorworks, Petros, and for the life of me, I have no idea how to actually make it work. It seems I am constantly ending up with designs in which part of the space is a two-or-more-story space, and the rest is single story, and I have yet to figure out any coherent way of addressing many of the issues involved, and it simply makes me crazy.

ArchiCad 10 however needs to be a paradigm shift for the software.
Personally, I don't need or want yet ANOTHER paradigm shift. I just want some easy door & window schedules, and maybe a way to catalog details. At V9, I'm discouraged that basics like these aren't here yet.

Akos,

I wasn't able to make it to the local demo. Is there some way I can see one online? Or is there at least a demo version of the product I could try?

I missed the specials because I simply hadn't had a chance to evaluate the products because of some personal issues including having to have surgery, and didn't want to buy it blindly.

You can watch a promotional movie on grahisoft site:
http://download.graphisoft.com/ftp/marketing/MaxonForm/

But has already anyone really used it? Can we have an independent user feedback? So that we can eventually make an informed buy.

I wish you all the best recovery after the post surgery!

These would definitely be a good start!

They're not? I'd better tell my staff to stop using them then. They've been making door & window schedules since 8.1 came out.

Tom,

I said EASY D&W schedules. The schedules are not "live", nor are they easy to format. Try a door schedule in Chief Architect and you'll understand the difference between what we have now and what's possible.

By live, do you mean "updates immediately?" In that case, you are correct, they are not live. I wish they would update on their own, but the abilty to make changes to the original elements or in the schedule view is incredibly useful. To me, that's close enough to "live" to get a lot of use out of.

I'm not sure what's difficult about them, though. You describe what you want to list, then what parameters of them you want to list.

I'd like them to be a little more WYSIWYG when it comes to the format, but I've found them pretty easy to format once you have done the first one.

(from maxon freeform to schedules free form is a big jump)

i dont know chief architect so i cannot compare but,
i agree w tom, it works very decently and save a lot of time..
i hate to review and prepare schedules "by hand" and ac is a good solution x it....not very friendly i have to add but..

I apologise to quote myself, but it is just to inform that I have finally read the first commentary of a user feedback of MaxonForm:
http://go.cadwire.net/?3264,2,1

It seems the major drawback is the fact that archicad elements loose their identity capabilities as walls, roofs, slabs, etc, after beeing edited by Maxonform, making it impossible to quantify on a schedules list.
Is there any Maxonform user with a new insight about pros and cons?

i think maxonform will be good if there are many tutorials
i think i can't buy it ,only if i see many tutorials of ARCHITECTURE Projects
i mean how to use it ,,,,,,,(not the manual only)
