My STL export for 3D printing does not work in ArchiCad 17

I am trying to do my first STL export for 3D printing in ArchiCad 17.
The steps are simple enough: File > Save as > choose STL format > name file and path > choose Binary / ASCII and Unit and Scale from options box > and click Save. Then the progress bar box comes up.

What happens next is where the problem seems to be. Nothing happens!
In the save folder only 2 "scratch files" appear with 0kb size.
I tried it several times and even left it over night. Still nothing. Just the progress bar box sitting there the same as hours ago. When I click on cancel the progress bar does not close. I have to click on the X to close this box.

During this whole exercise my computer runs with 5+GB of free RAM and Lots of hard drive space so this is definitely not the problem. No error messages appear.

Has anybody done this successfully? Has anybody had problems like this?
