Problem importing AutoCAD doors and windows

Anonymous
Not applicable
Very often when I open an AutoCAD file the doors and windows show up as squares and rectangles. Is this something I can correct on my end or do I need to request the AutoCAD file in a different format?

svaero,

This can happen if the user created their model in AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD MEP. Those versions of AutoCAD use a unique specialized form of blocks that will not always translate well when the DWG file is sent to other programs. The file needs to be exported from AutoCAD with a special command that will turn the smart blocks into standard blocks. This article explains the situation well: http://www.ccadinc.com/autocad-tutorials-aec-objects.html
