ZONE CATEGORY DEFAULT

I change the zone category default so it is set up how I want. Then I choose the zone tool, and go to the category. The zone tool does not use the updated defaults that I just entered in the category default. How do I get these two processes to link, or update, or change from the past default to the new default?

as far as I know, the Zone Categories always use the Object Defaults, regardless of what you set up in the Zone Category settings. I'm pretty sure it's a bug, but you never know....

Hello Tom (Krowka),

what you mean: "I change the zone category default so it is set up how I want"?
Have done changes in GDL, or?
If in GDL, then my question is:
doesn't update or update after reopening "zone settings dialog" & clicking OK Button after?(short way=click on any button in Info Box (for example PEN))

Under the options menu, go to zone categories. There one can change the default settings for each category of zone. I have inserted a zone stamp, and then change the settings for some of the parameters.

When I then go to the zone tool and select a category, the settings do not change to reflect the parameter changes I just did in the category.

if this is the Zone marker I made for you, it is relatively easy to set defaults in the object. (since it is not part of the Archicad Library PLA).

Click File -> GDL Objects -> Open Object.... and browse where you put the Zone Object.

The screen that opens will be the Object Parameters screen. You will see all the parameters of the object, and what their default settings are.

Change the default settings to what you want them to be, then click Save. If you make a mistake, there is no "Undo" in this window. The only option is to not save and lose any changes you have made. It's a good idea to make a backup copy in case you accidentally break something 🙂

Any Zone category that uses that object will now use its defaults.

Yeah, these are the tags, and I will do as you suggested. But my question remains......what is the options and zone categories command good for if it does not change anything. Except maybe the zone tag itself, but then I can do that through the zone tool anyway, right?

The categories themselves are nice for reports, if you want to know how much total assembly space do you have or total circulation space.... and not much else that I can find

Hi Tom Krowka,

after have played with some options in Zone Categories Dialog to change the defaults as you wish to do. Now would say that your problem is clear and it's not need to change Defaults in GDL if that's only for one(current) project as advises Tom Waltz(but the advise is good because the defaults aren't practical for any project).
So your problem is that after redefining zones categories you must update them in Info Box too. To do that you must just choose any other zone from the list as you currently see and again revert to the last one.
for example:

you have in the list:
>zone1<
zone2
zone3

currently you see zone1. You have to select zone2 or zone3, and than return to zone1. Result is that zone1 is updated according to changes in Zone Categories Dialog.
Repeat this for each zone from the list.

Goofy, but I'll give it a try.

Thanks.
